Another exercise-free weekend – whoops! Although my mother will be pleased
Yesterday was spent jam and cake baking and doing secret squirrel activities in preparation for Mr W’s final tube run this morning and today was spent up in town celebrating said final run.
As you can see the cake was slightly over-cooked on top but we ate some this afternoon and it tasted fine despite its looks. The jam was made on a whim having bought a huge carton of plums whilst in the supermarket on Friday night. It took a while to get to setting point but it got there eventually and I made six jars in total. There was also an extra bit that had to go in a ramekin in the fridge so I tasted that for breakfast this morning. I may be biased but I thought it tasted pretty good and it was set unlike the strawberry jam I made a few weeks ago which was rather runny!
So onto the highlight of the weekend – Mr W’s final tube run. Having spent Friday evening and bits of yesterday hidden away preparing bits for the finish, I waved Stephen off early this morning as he headed off to Earls Court to meet his team of runners for his final jaunt from Earls Court to Monument and then went into action collecting various items from their hiding places before heading up to town to meet the “support” crew. I was very early but so were Tamsyn (running_dan_w‘s wife) and Mr W’s parents so we gathered in Pret and had a quick coffee before assembling outside Monument station with a finishing tape and sign. Soon some more supporters joined us and by the time Stephen and his fellow runners arrived there were about 10 of us gathered to cheer him over the line. His fellow runners came on ahead leaving Stephen to do the final stretch on his own and take all the glory he deserves after completing his epic tube running challenge. Over the last 9 months he has run 435 miles between all of the stations on the London Underground and DLR network and raised over £5000 for SANDS, in memory of all babies who have been born too soon, including our beautiful angels, Robert, Samantha and Thomas. I am very proud of him. We were hoping that the end of the run would coincide with the start of a new and exciting phase of our lives as Thomas was due at the beginning of September. Sadly that was not to be, but together we remain positive that one day things will work out for us.
In the meantime however after finishing the run, runners and supporters alike decamped to the pub for a well-earned drink and lunch. It was a lovely afternoon and now all that remains is for Stephen to write up today’s run for us all to enjoy!

Great to meet you yesterday Zoe x

Mmm that jum looks amazing – I love home made jam. I am sorry I couldn;t come on Sunday I’m glad lots of people came out to cheer him on – what an amazing achievement for you just as much as him as you’ve had to do all that washing and keep him fed!!
